What is BOTOX^® Cosmetic?
BOTOX^® has been used therapeutically for more than 17 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. It is approved in more than 75 countries and remains the most-studied botulinum toxin and one of the most widely researched medicines in the world. In 2002, the same formulation – under the label BOTOX^® Cosmetic – was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65.

What causes frown lines between the brows?
The lines that appear between your brows actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. When powerful muscles between the brows contract, they draw the brows together, causing the skin to fold or furrow. As skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows result in stubborn lines.

How does BOTOX^® Cosmetic work?
During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX^® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for frown lines between the brows. By blocking the release of a chemical that causes these muscles to contract, BOTOX^® Cosmetic enables them to relax. The effects are very localized and, when administered by an experienced physician, do not affect your ability to smile, laugh, or otherwise show expression. BOTOX^® Cosmetic is the only product of its kind that has been approved for use in this area.

What are the common side effects?
The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection.

What is the treatment like?
BOTOX^® Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of a few tiny injections. Your nurse will determine exactly where to administer these injections to achieve the best results for you. No anesthesia is required, though he or she may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and there is no downtime afterward. Discomfort is minimal and brief. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/swelling may be associated with the injection.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions? Although you may see a marked improvement, a treatment with BOTOX^® Cosmetic does not make you look like you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

How soon will I see a difference?
You can expect to see results within days after your treatment, and the appearance of the area between your brows may continue to improve for up to a week.

To obtain the best possible results and maintain affordability for our clients, we strive to achieve your aesthetic goals using the least amount of product we feel is necessary. In addition, when treating facial fine lines and wrinkles with Botox and Xeomin, the best results are typically not fully realized immediately and may take up to 14 days to settle in and take effect.

Our highly trained, master injectors take a conservative approach when treating the area most people would agree is the most important feature of the body, their face. Our goal is reverse the signs of aging but most importantly, to do so in a most natural manner.

If you have not received the expected results, you may require a “dosage adjustment” visit. As of November 1st, a dosage adjustment visit will be $99. We will continue to provide free touch ups to adjust brow asymmetry.

FAQs

Why do we charge by the unit and not by the area?

We charge by the unit and not by the area because this is the most fair, ethical, and affordable approach for you. Since every person is different, their lines and wrinkles are different, and their facial muscles react differently to the injections, it is impossible to know in advance how much product will be needed to achieve their desired goals. We take a conservative approach for several reasons:

• It is more affordable for our clients if we charge by the unit rather than by the area. Using only the amount of product necessary to relax the muscles and reach your goals saves product, thus saving you money. Additionally, over-treating a muscle is useless, wasteful, and frankly, unethical. It is typically an indication of an inexperienced injector. Injecting more product than needed will cost you more money but will not enhance the results.
• Final results are not realized immediately. It can take up to 14 days for the product to take full effect. Keep in mind that you may still have visible wrinkles. This does not mean that the treatment was ineffective. The treated muscle may be fully relaxed but the skin has not yet adapted. Treating the same area again will not improve the results. It will simply cost you more money.
• Over treatment can cause unwanted results such as distortion, brow ptosis, eyelid ptosis, “frozen face” or other unnatural features. Our approach is “too little” is always better than “too much.”

Why do I have to pay for a dosage adjustment if I already paid for treatment?

Because we inject conservatively, our master injectors relying on years of expertise and experience, are only going to use as much product during your initial visit as we feel is necessary. If after several weeks, you need additional treatment, then you are simply paying for more product that you did not receive on the previous visit.

What is a free “touch-up?”

We will continue to offer free touch-ups for improving eyebrow asymmetry. That is, in the event one eyebrow is higher than the other, we will inject a small amount of product to equally align the brows.
