Laser Hair Removal

At the beach… everything shows

Laser hair removal is a convenient non-invasive method for permanently reducing or removing unwanted facial and body hair. It leaves the skin looking smoother and silkier than waxing, electrolysis, and razors and is a gentle technic that can treat large areas effectively with minimal discomfort and with no downtime.

Laser hair removal works by targeting hair follicles. The laser goes from light energy to heat energy as soon as it finds a root, which quickly destroys the base of the targeted hair follicles. Once the root dies, it loses its ability to produce hair. The leftover hair will then fall from the root base.

Today, laser hair removal is one of the most common aesthetic procedures performed in the United States.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

The laser emits a specific beam of light at a wavelength that targets the melanin in the hair at the hair growth center which is the hair bulb papilla region. The papilla is a large structure at the base of the hair follicle that nourishes the hair follicles by supplying nutrients and oxygen to the bottom layer of the epidermis cell. The bulge of a hair follicle is essential in the regeneration of hair as it supplies the hair follicle with new cells. For hair to stop growing back, these areas need to be seriously damaged.

There are 3 phases of hair growth. Phase 1 is the anagen, which is the active growth. Phase 2 is the catagen which is transition phase and the third phase is telogen, which is the resting phase. Laser targets only the active phase of hair growth. Not all hairs are in the anagen phase at the same time, therefore several treatments may be needed for complete hair removal.

How Laser Hair Removal Works With Soprano Ice Platinum

Three Wavelengths Combined in One Powerful Treatment

In the past, laser hair removal devices used a laser that worked well for one aspect of the treatment but often had to compromise in others. For example, one laser might be great at a range of different hair types, another laser might be faster than the others, while yet another may be more effective for darker skin tones. Since Soprano ICE Platinum combines the benefits of all three lasers, this is no longer the case.

With three different wavelengths combined into one, we can deliver a fast treatment that works on all skin types and a wide range of hair types. These wavelengths penetrate different depths of the skin simultaneously and target the treated hair follicles on multiple levels. This powerful tool is considered by many to represent the best hair removal laser technology on the market today.

What to Expect From Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment
If this is your first time for laser hair removal, it might seem a little intimidating at first. The good news is this a proven and extensively used treatment. It is considered very safe and effective. It’s truly a simple and straightforward process.

While results can differ slightly per individual, we know it can be helpful to have an idea of what you can expect when you come in for an appointment. With that in mind, we laid out a rough timeline, so you know what the treatment is going to look like, and when you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of it.

How to Prepare
When it comes to laser hair removal there’s very little needed in terms getting ready. We’ll answer any questions you have during your consultation. Here are a few things we recommend before your treatment.

Avoid Waxing
The root of your hair should be present during treatment. Tweezing, waxing, or any hair grooming that removes the hair along with its root should be avoided, since it could interfere with laser treatment. It’s still fine to shave beforehand, although for best results you may avoid shaving for 24 hours before your appointment.

Clean Your Skin Without Lotion or Creams
Before you come in, make sure the area you want to be treated is free of dirt or oil buildup. It’s a good idea to shower or bathe prior to your treatment. A clean surface will help the process work smoothly and quickly. On the day of your appointment, avoid using oils or fragrances on the area you’re going to have treated.

Take Extra Good Care of Your Skin
We recommend some skin pampering before you have your hair removed. A simple process is by using a daily sunblock, something that’s pretty beneficial whether you’re receiving laser hair treatment or not.

For a couple of days before your session, try to avoid skin products that can increase photosensitivity. Some of these products can include:

Benzoyl peroxide
Hydroxy acids
Retinols
Salicylic acid

Treatment
During your consultation, we’ll first make sure this procedure is a good fit for your needs. Before we start, you’ll be able to point out the exact areas you’d like treated. Your comfort is a top priority for us, so we will be happy to answer any questions you have, and guide you through each step of the process.

The length of your session will depend on what part of the body is being treated. For instance, if you are having the area above your lip treated, you could be in and out in minutes. Larger areas of the body naturally will take a little longer. Once we know which areas you’d like treated, we’ll be able to give you a more accurate time estimate.

Recovery
Over a week or so, the hair over the treated skin is going to fall out. You should protect your treated skin from excessive heat for about 24 hours after your treatment, so avoid the sauna or hot tub until at least a full day has passed. Avoid tanning beds for a couple of weeks after treatment, and apply sun protection when you go outdoors.

How Often Does Treatment Have to Be Repeated?
At first, you may notice some patchy hair growth coming in. This is completely normal, as the laser will have missed some of the hair follicles the first time around. You may need repeated treatments until you are completely happy with your results. We find a total of about six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart is just about right to get those ideal results.

After that, your visits can be reduced to the occasional touch-up. Passing time, hormonal fluctuations, and life changes can make some hair growth return, so these maintenance visits will be a way to keep your results exactly how you like them.

Results
After your series of treatments, you’ll be able to enjoy freedom from constantly having to shave, wax, and pluck. Rather than having to hop in the shower for a shave before you join head to the beach, you’ll be able to just go without feeling self-conscious about unwanted hair growth.
